THE FISCAL SHIP
The Richard Lounsbery Foundation recently helped fund a game called The Fiscal Ship. The game challenges players to put the federal budget on a sustainable course, preventing debt from climbing to unprecedented levels. Currently, the debt is higher than anytime since the end of WWII. Players are faced with difficult decisions about how to still offer many important programs, including benefits for the elderly, military spending, federal funding for school systems, and environmental protections. In addition to leveling off the federal debt, players chose three goals to achieve, basing their choices off of them. Although sacrifices must be made, the goal is achievable.
